SO COOL! Can't wait to have a state full of blueways!
One of our members, Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association (TSRA) just completed their 21st river access build and first river access site outside of Middle Tennessee. TSRA volunteers designed and built a river access point on the Big South Fork at Station Camp. These access points are part of a TSRA initiative to build a network of blueways with launch points for recreational paddling on rivers, streams and lakes in our state.
When a visually impaired person stands at the top of a flight of stairs and looks down, it looks like a ramp - creating a serious danger.
For the past seven years our member, the Mid Tennessee Council of the Blind in Nashville, along with the Tennessee Council of the Blind, have been fighting for legislation to address this issue .... and they won! 🎉🎊😁
Now steps will use a contrasting paint on the edge of stairs to the main entrances of government buildings so that people with a visual impairment could better see each individual step.
Only non historical buildings providing a public service have to comply but this is a big step in the right direction.👍
The next step is to try to get a bill like this passed in other states.
